Global giant EDF Energy announced yesterday a three year community investment with Glasshouse client Premier Rugby. The scheme will see each club take rugby into over 100 schools and involve over 100,000 children and teachers.  The scheme is going to make a special effort to reach non rugby playing schools and areas, hence the symbolism of the launch in inner city Manchester. Louise Poole, EDF Energy’s Head of Brand, highlighted one of the decisive factors in choosing the professional clubs: “Children need role models and so we’re really pleased that Premiership players are going to be involved throughout the programme.” With the Department of Health soon to make announcements about its strategy for dealing with obesity will professional sport be high or low on their tools for dealing with this chronic social issue?
