Voluntary Carbon Standard 2007 launches

14:59 on 19/11/07

Backed by ISO and authored by Anne-Marie Warris of client LRQA, the latest iteration of the Voluntary Carbon Standard launched today with the valiant aim of reforming an otherwise flaky voluntary carbon offset market.

It provides two things:

  • A framework for measuring the impact of offset projects, to ensure that a tonne of carbon offset paid for is actually a tonne of carbon offset.
  • A registry, to ensure that carbon offsets can’t be ‘double counted’ — i.e. the same offset paid for twice.

You can listen to a podcast interview about the Voluntary Carbon Standard on LRQA’s BusinessAssurance.com portal.
